School Police: Friend or Foe?

School is supposed to be one of the safest places for our children. But in an era when America has seen the highest number of gun related incidents on school campuses since the 1999 Columbine shooting, is law enforcement presence the answer? Between 2013 and 2021, California had 25 school shooting incidents. In 2022, the state averaged one mass shooting per week. A new bill has been introduced to bring armed officers onto campus, but the jury is still out whether this is the right solution for California schools and the safety of our kids.

Assembly Bill 3038 is one part of a 3-prong public safety package brought forth by Assemblyman Bill Essayli. The bill would require all k-12 California schools to have at least one armed officer on-site during school hours or when students are present on campus.
